TRAINING: Disability-inclusive ECD Stakeholders Consultative Meeting in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Overview

The Disability-Inclusive ECD Course is designed to equip parents, caregivers, frontline workers, and policy makers with the knowledge and skills needed to support and promote inclusive early childhood development for children with disabilities. This comprehensive course addresses the critical need for inclusive ECD to ensure that all children, regardless of their abilities, have access to quality early childhood education and care.

By completing this Disability-Inclusive ECD Course, participants will be empowered to create more inclusive and supportive environments for children with disabilities, fostering their growth, development, and participation in society. Additionally, policy makers will gain insights to advocate for and implement inclusive ECD policies at various levels of governance.

Course Objectives:

By the end of the training the course participants should be able to:

  1. Define disability and understand the importance of inclusive early childhood development
  2. Gain a comprehensive understanding of disability from global, regional, and national perspectives
  3. Highlight the significance of inclusive practices for holistic child development
  4. Identify and address the needs of children with various disabilities (physical, cognitive, sensory, developmental)
  5. Learn about different disability models and children’s rights
  6. Combat stigma, provide emotional support, and create inclusive environments for children with disabilities and their families.

Format

  • The course is available in three comprehensive packages and delivered through in-person workshops and interactive discussions
  • Participants will engage in practical exercises, case studies, and real-life scenarios to apply their knowledge and skills
  • Assessment methods may include assignments, quizzes, and a final project that involves creating an action plan for follow up purposes and provision of technical support

This course is suitable for parents/caregivers, frontline workers and policy makers

Certificates

Participants who successfully meet the course requirements will receive a certificate of completion.
